The DAILY CALLER is reporting that a Sage Creek High School teacher in Carlsbad, CA is putting pressure on school employees to hide student gender transitions from parents.
According to the article, “Sage Creek High School teacher and Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) club advisor Sarah Hunter sent an email to all staff advising them that students’ preferred pronouns or gender identity at school may not be what they go by at home.”
The DAILY CALLER also stated that “Hunter advised faculty to check with a student on what name and pronouns they should use when addressing family so they do not “out” the student to their family, specifically if they have transitioned to the opposite sex.”
Sharon McKeeman, candidate for Carlsbad Unified School District and a prominent figure of the Let Them Breathe movement, responded to the news saying, “Children do not belong to the state and school curriculum and programs require transparency.
Hiding information about a student from their parents, she said, harms the family unit and the student. Teachers must partner with parents.
