See You at the Library Event – Inside and Outside

Inside

Carlsbad C2O’s See You at the Library (SYATL) event was a great success, praise God! We hadn’t even opened with welcome remarks when the librarian told us we were ‘at capacity’!

The teens and tweens who volunteered their day to set up refreshments, lead the Pledge of Allegiance, read books, sing songs, face paint, run the AV, perform Irish dances, and finish strong with raffling off gift books and Brave Book items were spectacular!

Thank you all for the support you gave so that Carlsbad Citizens for Community Oversight (C2O) could present this special event honoring God, Family, and Country. #GodFamilyCountry!

Here’s what Kirk Cameron’s team had to say about the 300+ #SYATL programs across our nation: “our team is incredibly impressed with all the creativity and hard work you poured into your story hours! We can’t say enough how grateful we are for your servant hearts, for your perseverance, and for your support.”

Outside

While we were inside celebrating children and wholesome family fun, what was happening outside in the library’s courtyard? A pop-up protest, perhaps?

As reported by our intrepid Beth:

“The Banned Book group had set up a table near the entrance to the library. I walked up and looked at the many books they said are banned or are trying to be banned but what I saw are books that I have read and love like The Color Purple, To Kill A Mockingbird, some Dr Seuss books.

I asked if these books were actually banned in local school libraries? They said no, but most of them had been banned throughout the years. I explained that I would never want these books banned and if they aren’t banned here locally isn’t that misleading the general public that walks by this table?

One of the women is a teacher in Carlsbad, she has her students read To Kill a Mockingbird. I asked again, isn’t that misleading the public, because this book isn’t banned. I asked why they didn’t have the books that had porn in them on the table, that those were the books that I have asked to be removed.

They asked, well what is your definition of porn?! Eventually I pulled out the copies of pictures from the book Gender Queer, Fun Home etc and showed them to people stopping at the table, they didn’t believe me, that these books were in school and the Banned Books people didn’t
want me showing those pictures.

Later, my friend and her daughter stopped to look at the table and noticed that Gender Queer was on the table. She turned to the page that has graphic pictures and asked them why this was available for her 12 year old daughter to pick up. They said ‘that section was for adults,’ yet they weren’t monitoring it at all.”

C2O will continue to expose the truth of what is happening in our schools and libraries—the evils being perpetrated on children for the sake of normalizing sex for children and driving a wedge between children and parents. Please join us in this battle to protect children’s innocence and to protect families as the stabilizing force in society.
